BOOOOOM
I started making this last month?? I don't know when. Anyway, my art class was doing a final independent project. And around the school there was a student who made a GIANT SD card, and i was like, woah man, let's just chill for a sec and let me copy you
SO I was like oh ya let's make a giant Ipod to myself. and myself thought it was a pretty good idea.
So this is made out of styrofoam and plaster. I measured all the dimensions of the ipod and multiplied them so that they would match a 9ft tall piece of styrofoam. i don't know how wide it is, i forgot. anyway.
First I glued these three big mats of stryfoam together and made it the right thickness. then i carved out the basic shape of the curves, and sanded them to be smooth. and i marked and etched in the screen and scroll wheel even though on a real ipod they are pretty much just flat.
after the shape was made, I underwent the process of slathering plaster alll over that mother trucker. this was all exhausting and time consuming. which is why i didn't finish it in school and am now going to finish it over the summer : ) but ya, once my parents helped me get it home in our van i was shocked how cool it looked out in broad daylight. like until then i working pretty close to it inside a building, so it was hard to tell exactly how it looked. but once it was outside i took a step back and really admired my craftsmanship HOHOHO. but ya for once in my life i am actually happy with something i have created. yaaaa
the picture makes it look a bit squat, i think it looks a tad more accurate in real life. but even so, i think that in the multiplication process because of it's massive size it wouldn't quite look right anyway...
So ya, gonna finish sanding the plaster and then paint it. i have to find out how exactly you're supposed to paint these kind of sculptures because i'm sure you have to put some sort of resin on before paint or something.
